Upgrades to items are a method to increase the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade it could increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity and boost additional stats.

Each item has a track to upgrade it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a set amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's basic stats increase when it is upgraded. The value is the sum of an item's leveled-up perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive dependent on who you employ and what you decide to do. This is due to how many perks have to be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded.

Item level is a popular measure of power, and is visible on all tooltips of items. It can also be used as a gating requirement while queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear a player can wear (since PvP is capped at the lower levels). The average level of the item is listed on the character sheet.

When deciding whether to purchase or sell equipment, players can compare the item level. It's an indicator of the damage and its quality. The item level can also be used to evaluate items when looking at the inventory of a vendor.

On PC, you are able to check the level of the item by pressing ALT or using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the full description of the item, including its value. It is also accessible by hovering over an item with the mouse cursor, and then entering /itemlevel into chat.

There are several theories on how the calculation of an item's level is made. One theory is that the level is a number that comes from a formula which calculates the amount an item's stats are worth. It considers that different benefits are valued differently and that gems in the sockets increase the item's value. This process could result in a calculated value for the item's level, which is usually close to Blizzard's real item level.

This isn't the only factor that influences the ilvl of an item. The degree of the area in which the item was dropped can change its stats. For instance, it could increase the item's haste or crit score. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have more the ilvl than items from lower level instances.

Item Stats

The item's stats can make or break an item for players. The game uses a lot of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and prevent one weapon from being "the most effective." The base stats of a weapon are boosted by the weapon's stat modifications that are in turn enhanced by the player's level.

Upgrades to the item add by increasing certain stats on the item. The rarity of an item determines its upgrade cost. For instance, a gray or white item will only be upgraded once, while items with rare levels will be upgraded multiple times with higher prices.

Affixes can also be used to change an item's stats. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes are used to give items additional damage or other special abilities (such as the ability to revive dead or reduce cooling downs), or to make them unique by putting a name on them.

At present, all affixes can be modified by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button, which is accompanied by circles arrows. This will cost a specific amount in gold and items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, as with other methods of rerolling.

Players can choose to upgrade an item to a specific stat, or reroll attaches. The range of stats is determined by the item's level. However each item will include at least one stat within the range, unless they are an item that is unique, or an item that has a God Roll from a boss in a raid.

Another thing that could be changed by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes or deciding which stats to boost. Like base equipment, it must be done per item and the item comparison interface will not show all possible stats at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the chances of item discoveries as well as the properties that appear on loot drops, and the intensity of those properties. However, it doesn't directly impact damage or the ability to  upgrade item s. It simply gives players a chance to acquire better equipment earlier in the game, and is therefore more valuable in the initial game run than later ones since most players prefer greater weapon scaling and defense over raw damage gains.

Luck can also boost the chance of upgrading items at the Blacksmith.  item upgrading  should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chance that increases with each level of the item and can be further increased by using an anti-material, such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

The shields, armor, and weapons have a default Luck value of 40. These items can be augmented with golden ingots or spined leather (depending on their material type) to add another 40 luck or to boost the Luck of an item up to 140.

item upgrades , such as the weapon with Hollow-infused components can also be outfitted to increase the damage dealt by any skill that causes damage by five percent. These items are available in the shop or crafted using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items can be a costly process and not all upgrades will be successful. However, there are cash shop items that allow players to boost their success rate or prevent them from losing an item if the upgrade fails.

The success rate of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage indicates the probability of successfully upgrading an item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special Materials. The percentage of success can only be increased by so much, and the chance that an upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%..

The performance of an upgrade is also affected by the luck of the item. Every item has an average success rate of 25%, and each item with Luck increases that chance by an additional five percent.

Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the inventory items, so enchantment glint and other effects could be obscured by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
